Keeping parents and carers in the loop with kids' extra-curricular activities

The client

ClassForKids is the leading booking and management software provider for the extra-curricular activities industry within the UK. Specialising in kids activities since 2015, they have supported numerous UK clubs and membership organisations to modernise their administration and business processes, providing parents and carers with access to a highly usable booking and payment experience.

The challenge

ClassForKids' existing platform is a B2B solution targeting club admins, but the brand knew there was untapped potential for supporting parents and carers in engaging with their child's activities. They wanted Screenmedia to help them better understand how to bring their ideas to reality for this audience.

The solution

A market-first companion app for parents and carers that integrates with ClassForKids' core platform to offer users a convenient channel for staying up-to-date and engaged with their children's classes.

Opportunity exploration

ClassForKids had a wealth of audience and market knowledge from their years of experience working with clubs. Working in close collaboration with their team of key product owners and stakeholders, we used these insights to map out the experience of booking and managing class schedules. From this we were able to conceptualise a range of potential product approaches, which were narrowed down through further prioritisation.

Defining the solution

With a set of product features now defined, we moved into creating a prototype of the app experience, using wireframes to rapidly explore and evaluate product concepts with key stakeholders, then elevating the winning ideas with a full UI design concept. This collaborative and iterative process built the confidence of stakeholders, and ensured that the new app was in keeping with their established brand, while still being suitable for a more consumer audience.

Flutter development

To deliver a truly consumer-grade experience and meet the high expectations of the target audience, we opted to use the open-source Flutter framework to ensure both high quality for users and cost efficiency for ClassForKids. This had the additional benefit of enabling us to easily leverage the existing data within the brand's core SaaS platform, integrated via a RESTful API to present information in a secure and user-friendly format.

Results

The MVP app launched into a pilot phase in iOS and Android app stores in 2023, testing initially with early adopted kids clubs. With its next phase of development already in planning, the app sets up new engagement and revenue opportunities for ClassForKids as they grow their business internationally and across new markets.
